How the signs were checked
Most people know their Sun sign from their birthday, but the Sun changes sign at a slightly different moment each year, and a birthday near the changeover can fall either side. So instead of using a date chart, we ran each driver's date of birth through Lunara's Swiss Ephemeris calculation, checking where the Sun was across the whole of that day in the driver's birthplace time zone.
All 22 Suns stayed in one sign for the entire birth day, so none of these signs depends on a birth time. That's also as far as the list goes. We haven't used birth times, so there are no Moon signs, rising signs or houses here, and no full charts.
Three signs with four drivers: does it mean anything?
It's tempting to read the clusters as a pattern: Libras balancing a car on the limit, Virgos with an eye for detail, Aquarians doing it their own way. It's a fun conversation for a race weekend, and that's all it is.
With 22 drivers and 12 signs, that's a little under two per sign on average, so a few signs with four and a few with none is what a small group tends to look like. The grid also changes every season. We haven't done any statistical analysis, and none is implied: a Sun sign isn't evidence about who is quick, who wins or how a race will go.
Same sign, different drivers
The clearest example is the Libra group. Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen were both born in autumn 1997, a little over two weeks apart, and both have the Sun in Libra. Isack Hadjar and Gabriel Bortoleto, born in 2004, are Libras too. Four drivers, one sign, and four very different careers and personalities.
That's because the Sun is one placement out of many. A birth chart also places the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars and the rest by sign, and with an accurate birth time adds the rising sign and houses, which change through the day. Two people with the same Sun can have almost nothing else in common.
For what a fuller reading looks like, see our Charles Leclerc birth chart. It starts from a sourced birth time and reads Leclerc's Libra Sun alongside the rest of the chart, with a piano habit as the way in. It's the same Sun sign as the three other Libras in the list above, and a different chart.
Your own chart
If you'd like to see more than your Sun sign, you can calculate your birth chart for free. Add your birth time if you have it from a certificate or hospital record. Without one, the calculator works from your birth date using a representative midday time, so there's no rising sign or houses, and a planet that changed sign during that day (most often the Moon) may not be certain. If you want a written interpretation, there's an optional, paid personal birth chart reading. It's an automated symbolic reading of your chart, not a prediction, and the price for your country is shown before you decide.
