Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan: Two Pisces Suns, a Different Mars

5 min read

Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan were born five years and one day apart, and on paper their charts look almost matched. Both have the Sun in the opening degrees of Pisces. Both have Mercury in Aquarius. Both have Venus in Capricorn. If astrology were a personality quiz, you could stop there and call them the same type.

Then you get to Mars, and the two charts head in different directions. That split is the more useful part of the comparison, for them and for anyone who makes things with a friend.

What was actually announced

According to Consequence and Cosmopolitan, both reporting on October 13, 2026, Rodrigo's first-ever remix is a new version of “expectations” featuring Roan, announced for October 15 at 5 p.m. Pacific. Consequence reports a companion video directed by Bardia Zeinali. Cosmopolitan describes a friendship of several years: Roan opened Rodrigo's SOUR tour and sang backing vocals on several of her songs.

We haven't heard the remix or seen the video, and this piece doesn't review them. The collaboration, the friendship and the release date come from that reporting. Nothing below claims a chart caused the collaboration, explains a lyric or says anything about either artist's private feelings.

The birth data, and what we're leaving out

Rodrigo was born on February 20, 2003, in Murrieta, California. A 03:00 time is stored for her, but it hasn't been independently corroborated, so our reading uses only placements that hold for her whole birth day. Roan was born on February 19, 1998, in Willard, Missouri. Her stored time is rated C (accuracy in question), so it isn't used either.

That means no Rising signs, no houses and no settled Moon signs. Rodrigo's Moon moved from Libra into Scorpio late on her birth day; Roan's moved from Scorpio into Sagittarius that morning. Each Moon could be in either sign, and we aren't choosing.

Same signs, side by side

Here's the comparison, placement by placement. Every position below holds across each artist's whole birth day.

  • Sun: Pisces for both, in the first couple of degrees of the sign. Rodrigo's Sun sits beside Uranus at the very end of Aquarius; Roan's travels with Jupiter in Pisces.
  • Mercury: Aquarius for both, but not at the same degree. Rodrigo's is around 10° Aquarius, joined to Neptune; Roan's is near 28°, right at the end of the sign. Same sign, more than 15 degrees apart. That isn't a conjunction.
  • Venus: Capricorn for both. Astrologers read Venus in Capricorn as taste that's built and refined rather than improvised.
  • Mars: Sagittarius for Rodrigo, at about 22° beside Pluto and almost exactly opposite Saturn. Pisces for Roan, at about 19°, in a sextile to her Venus.
  • Moon: open for both, as explained above.

Sharing a sign is a broad category. Two people can share a Sun, Mercury and Venus sign and still have very different charts, because the degrees, the planets each one is joined to and every other placement are different.

The Mars split

In astrology, Mars is how you push: what drive looks like, how effort comes out, what you do when you want something.

Mars in Sagittarius is traditionally read as outspoken, restless drive, aimed at something bigger or further away. In Rodrigo's chart, it sits with Pluto and opposite Saturn, which our profile reads as intensity that keeps running into limits: rules, timing, other people's expectations pressing back.

Mars in Pisces is traditionally read as drive that moves through imagination, mood and performance rather than straight lines. In Roan's chart, it's in a sextile to Venus in Capricorn, which our profile reads as fantasy and craft cooperating: the dreamlike image that turns out to be carefully built.

Neither is better. One is read as a push forward and outward; the other as a push that works through feeling and image. Both charts also share a Pisces Sun and a deliberate Capricorn Venus. On a symbolic level, that's two people with a similar emotional temperature and similar standards who go after things differently.

That is a description of two charts, not a theory of how a remix was made. The astrology offers vocabulary; it doesn't give us access to a studio.

Compare your chart with someone you make things with

Pick a friend, bandmate, co-writer or anyone you build things with. You'll need both birth dates; birth times help but aren't required for this.

  1. Write down four placements for each of you: Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars signs.
  2. Mark each pair as same sign or different sign. Ignore degrees for now.
  3. For every same-sign pair, ask what you can count on the other person to understand without explaining.
  4. For every different-sign pair, ask where you each tend to push in different ways, and whether that difference has helped you finish something.

If your Mars signs differ, that's not a warning. Often the difference is the useful part: one of you starts things, the other finds the shape. If you don't know a birth time, leave the Moon and Rising out rather than guessing; the four placements above are enough to start a conversation.

Beyond a sign match

Sharing a Sun sign with either artist doesn't mean sharing their chart; your other planets can sit somewhere else entirely. To see what a full written interpretation looks like, read the complete fictional sample reading. If you want one for your own chart, there's an optional, paid personal birth chart reading. It's an automated symbolic interpretation, not a consultation or a prediction, and the price for your country is shown before you decide.
