Mercury opposition Mercury

Leo meets Aquarius

Leo Mercury gives a thought a personal voice: “This matters to me.” Aquarius Mercury pulls back to look at the idea: “Does this make sense?” In a symbolic reading, an opposition can bring a useful second perspective, or the feeling that someone is answering a different question. It does not prove that Selena and Benny argue this way.

Estimated orb across hourly samples: 3.2°–4.5°. Present in every sampled pair, not a continuously proved bound.

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco marked their first wedding anniversary in September 2026. The tempting astrology headline writes itself: Cancer marries Pisces, two water signs find their person. We looked at the birth data before writing that story. There is a problem with the neat version.

Selena was born on a day when the Sun moved from Cancer into Leo. The widely circulated 7:19 a.m. birth time places her in Cancer, but the birth-data source marks that time C: accuracy in question. Benny's time is unknown. A confident rising-sign reading, a Moon-aspect love story or a percentage score would make these charts look more certain than they are.

There is still plenty to read. Their Mercury placements oppose each other. A Sun–Venus square survives the change in Selena's Sun sign. Those are more interesting starting points than “two water signs get along.”

The birth data we actually have

Astrotheme's Selena Gomez entry lists July 22, 1992, Grand Prairie, Texas, at 7:19 a.m. Its reliability label is C, not a verified birth record. Its Benny Blanco entry lists March 8, 1988, Reston, Virginia, without a time. It explicitly says that its displayed chart uses noon arbitrarily.

We therefore treat both as date-only charts for this comparison. We do not borrow Selena's published Ascendant and present it as established fact, or turn Benny's noon Moon degree into a precise contact.

Lunara's tropical Swiss Ephemeris calculation puts the Cancer-to-Leo ingress on Selena's local birth date at approximately 9:09 a.m. CDT. If the published 7:19 time is correct, the Cancer label fits. Without trusting that time, the date alone permits Cancer or Leo. This does not mean she “isn't really a Cancer”; it means the familiar claim depends on a piece of data whose source has a warning attached.

If your own birthday falls near a sign change, our Sun sign cusp calculator checks the whole local day and shows whether a birth time is needed to settle the sign.

Benny's Sun remains in Pisces across his local birth date. Selena's Mercury and Venus remain in Leo; his Mercury stays in Aquarius and Venus in Taurus. Those stable placements give us something useful to compare.

Their Mercurys disagree in an interesting way

Selena's Mercury in Leo opposes Benny's Mercury in Aquarius. Across hourly samples of both local birth dates, this contact stays within about 3.2–4.5 degrees of an exact opposition.

In astrology, Mercury describes a style of thinking and speaking. Leo tends to give an idea a personal voice: a story, a position, something worth saying with conviction. Aquarius tends to stand back from the individual speaker and examine the idea itself. An opposition puts these approaches across the table from each other.

That can be useful. Someone who immediately asks whether an idea works may bring perspective to someone who is explaining why it matters. It can also produce a familiar conversational miss: one person wants their feeling heard, while the other is still evaluating the argument.

This is a symbolic interpretation, not a report from their kitchen. We do not know how they settle disagreements. If you recognize the pattern in your own relationship, try a more practical question than “Are our Mercurys incompatible?” Ask whether your partner wants a response to the feeling, a solution to the problem, or both.

A square survives the Cancer-or-Leo question

Selena's Sun squares Benny's Venus in Taurus across our sampled birth-day combinations. The estimated orb ranges from about 1.4 to 3.5 degrees. The contact survives even though Selena's Sun sign changes during the day.

This is why a Sun-sign grid can miss what a chart comparison offers. Signs divide the zodiac into twelve sections. Aspects describe the geometry between placements. A sign boundary does not erase an angular relationship.

A Sun–Venus square is traditionally read as friction between self-expression and another person's affection style. Taurus Venus brings a symbolic preference for steadiness, comfort and gestures that are tangible. Someone can offer that kind of care sincerely and still miss what makes the other person feel recognized.

For an ordinary couple, the useful discussion might be wonderfully small: the meal you cook, the compliment you give, the evening you plan. Does your partner experience the gesture the way you intended it? A square supplies a question, not a verdict on the quality of a marriage.

Intensity is not evidence of jealousy

Selena's Venus squares Benny's Pluto, with an estimated sampled orb of about 1.0–2.2 degrees. Astrologers often read Venus–Pluto contacts through intensity, attachment and power. Celebrity coverage can take that vocabulary somewhere ugly very quickly.

A calculated angle does not establish possessiveness, manipulation or any other private behavior. We will not assign those claims to two people because a line connects their charts.

The responsible use of the symbolism is a question about your own life: can you be close to someone and still allow them space? Can a request for independence remain a request, rather than become a test of loyalty? Those conversations do not require a celebrity diagnosis.

What their anniversary tells us, and what astrology doesn't

HOLA's September 28 anniversary report describes their public celebration of a year of marriage. That is the reason to revisit the pair now. The anniversary is not a result predicted by this reading.

Public statements and actions are evidence about a public relationship. Astrological interpretations are a different kind of material. Selecting a harmonious contact after a happy announcement does not show that the chart caused or forecast the event. Selecting a tense contact does not forecast a breakup either.

We have deliberately left out both Moons, house overlays and rising signs. We also have not attached a compatibility percentage. Missing time data matters, and a percentage would suggest a calibrated probability of success that astrology cannot provide.

Read your own chart comparison with the same care

You do not need to know an exact birth time to begin a two-chart comparison. You do need to keep track of which claims depend on it. Leave an unknown time blank rather than inventing noon. A usable comparison can focus on the placements and contacts that remain supported, then say what it cannot answer.

Calculation note

We used Lunara's existing tropical, geocentric Swiss Ephemeris calculator, not a separate celebrity calculation system. The displayed diagram uses local-noon reference positions. Each local birth date was sampled hourly plus 23:59; every sampled pair was checked with the site's existing aspect rules. The ranges above are sampled estimates, not continuous mathematical bounds. The selected contacts were present in every sampled pair. We excluded lunar contacts, houses and angles, and did not use the questionable published time to claim exact personal degrees.

Birth data and public-event sources were checked on October 1, 2026. All interpretation and illustration are original. This article does not reproduce celebrity photographs or claim access to private records.
