Tokio Hotel's official US store lists the band's album ENCORE for October 16, 2026, and describes a standard-edition sleeve called "Twins". That's a fitting word for a band whose two founding members, Bill and Tom Kaulitz, are identical twins. It also raises a question astrology readers ask a lot: if two people were born on the same day in the same city, aren't their birth charts the same? And if the charts are nearly the same, why aren't the people?
The short answer is that a lot of the chart is shared, and that's exactly why it can't be the whole explanation of either life.
Birth data and method
- Born: September 1, 1989, in Leipzig. Wikipedia lists this date and place for Bill. Tom's Wikipedia link redirects to the Tokio Hotel article, which identifies the brothers as identical twins but doesn't give his birth date separately. Lunara's celebrity catalogue lists the same date and place for both.
- Birth times: the catalogue also stores a birth time for each brother, rated A. We didn't re-verify those records, and this article doesn't use them. That's a choice about what this piece covers, not a claim that the times are missing or wrong.
- Calculation: Lunara's central chart calculation (Swiss Ephemeris, tropical zodiac, geocentric), sampled every hour of the local day in Leipzig from midnight to 11 p.m., plus 11:59 p.m. The Moon's sign was checked separately from the start to the end of the day.
- Kept: only positions and contacts that hold at every sample. No Rising sign, houses or exact Moon degree, because those depend on the minute.
The shared sky, all day on September 1, 1989
- Sun: Virgo, about 8.5° to 9.4°
- Moon: Virgo for the whole day (sign only)
- Mercury: Libra, about 5.5° to 6.3°
- Venus: Libra, about 16.4° to 17.6°
- Mars: Virgo, about 18° to 18.6°
- Jupiter: Cancer, about 6°
- Saturn, Uranus, Neptune: all in Capricorn
- Pluto: Scorpio, about 13°
Contacts that hold at every sample include Mercury square Jupiter (within about 0.4° of exact), the Sun trine Neptune and Saturn, and Jupiter opposite Saturn. These are hourly samples, so they show what held at those times, not a minute-by-minute proof.
Notice something about that list: it isn't really "the Kaulitz twins' chart". Anyone born on that date shares nearly the same planetary positions; the fast-moving Moon is the part most likely to differ between time zones. Saturn, Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn belong to everyone born in 1989. Twins share one more thing, the place, but so does everyone born in Leipzig that day.
What a shared chart can and can't say
Astrology reads a birth chart as a set of symbols, not a script. The Sun and Moon both in Virgo are traditionally associated with craft, attention to detail and the urge to improve something. Mercury and Venus in Libra are associated with conversation, taste and balancing one person's view against another's. Mercury square Jupiter is often read as a mind that wants to say more than the space allows.
Those descriptions apply to the shared sky. They don't sort into "Bill's half" and "Tom's half", and they don't tell you which brother got the "good" version of a placement. Splitting a shared chart that way would be inventing a story, not reading a chart.
The public record does show two distinct people in the same band. According to Wikipedia's Tokio Hotel article, Bill is the lead vocalist, and Tom's roles include guitars, keyboards and backing vocals. That's a real difference. But nothing in the shared positions above explains it, and it would be dishonest to claim the chart assigned those roles. Two people can start from the same date and city and still make different choices, meet different people, practise different instruments and want different things.
Where twins' charts do differ is in the parts that move fastest: the exact Rising degree and the house each planet falls in. Lunara's catalogue profiles show the full timed charts for Bill Kaulitz and Tom Kaulitz. Even there, a few degrees of difference is a different emphasis in a symbolic system. It isn't a personality test, and it isn't evidence for or against astrology.
A question to try with someone you started out close to
Pick someone who began in a similar place to you: a sibling, a school friend, a colleague who joined the same week.
- List three things you had in common at the start: the same town, the same teacher, the same first job.
- List one choice each of you made later that the other didn't.
- Ask which of those choices you'd still make today.
The shared starting point is real. So are the choices. A chart can describe the first in symbols. It can't make the second for you.
Your own chart
If you know your birth time from a certificate or hospital record, use it, and your Rising sign and houses will be included. Calculate your free birth chart to see where your planets fall. If you don't know your time, read how a birth chart works without a birth time first. The calculator won't guess one.
You can read a complete fictional sample reading to see what a full written chart looks like. If you want your own, there's an optional, paid personal birth chart reading. It's automated and written from Lunara's interpretation copy for your placements, not written or reviewed by an astrologer, and it isn't a prediction. The price for your country is shown before you decide.
