Transit chart calculator

Transits are where the planets are now, measured against where they were when you were born. Everyone shares the same sky today; what’s personal is how it lines up with your own chart. This calculator takes one snapshot of the current sky and lists every close major aspect between today’s planets and your natal planets.

Your details are used to calculate this chart and aren’t saved or added to the page address. If you choose to buy a reading, the details needed to write it are stored with your order.

The city sets the local time zone for your birth date. Your current location isn’t needed.

Two kinds of placement

Your natal planets are fixed: they’re where the Sun, Moon and planets were at the moment you were born. Transiting planets are where those same bodies are now, and they keep moving. The sky itself is collective, the same for everyone today. A transit becomes personal only when a moving planet makes an angle to a point in your own chart.

Speeds differ a lot. The Moon crosses a sign in about two and a half days, so its contacts pass within hours. Mercury, Venus and the Sun take days. Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move slowly and can stay close to the same natal point for weeks or months. This page shows one moment only; it doesn’t measure how long a contact lasts or predict when it will be exact.

The five major aspects, as transits

conjunction (0°): Meeting
Today’s planet sits on the same degree as one of yours. Astrologers read it as that theme being emphasised, its volume turned up.
sextile (60°): Opening
Read as an invitation: the two themes can cooperate if you choose to use it.
square (90°): Pressure
Read as friction between today’s theme and yours, the kind that can ask for an adjustment.
trine (120°): Ease
Read as support or flow between the two themes. Easy can also mean easy to overlook.
opposition (180°): Mirror
Read as today’s theme facing yours from across the chart, often framed as a question of balance.

None of these is good or bad, and none is a guaranteed event. Astrology here is a symbolic framework for reflection, not established prediction. To see the angles inside your own birth chart, use the birth chart aspects calculator; for the sky on its own, see the chart of the moment.

Frequently asked questions

What is a transit?
A transit is a planet’s current position compared with a point in your birth chart. The sky moves for everyone at once; the contacts are personal because every birth chart is different.
Why only 2°?
It’s a fixed, deliberately tight cutoff for this page so the list shows close contacts only. There is no universal rule: many astrologers use wider orbs for transits, and some use different orbs for different planets.
How long does a contact last?
This page doesn’t measure that. As a rough guide, the Moon moves about 13° a day, so its contacts come and go within hours, while Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move slowly and can stay within 2° of the same point for weeks or months, sometimes returning more than once. The page doesn’t calculate exact dates or whether a contact is getting closer.
What if nothing is listed?
Then none of today’s planets is within 2° of a major aspect to yours right now. That’s common and it doesn’t mean your chart is quiet, wrong or protected from anything. Try again another day; the fast planets move quickly.
Why do I need a birth time?
Without a time you can still calculate most planet positions, and slow planets barely change in a day. This first version uses Lunara’s existing recorded-time form and doesn’t offer a no-time mode, so it won’t guess noon or a Moon degree.

Method: Lunara’s central Swiss Ephemeris calculation, tropical zodiac, geocentric. Your natal chart comes from the same recorded-time calculation as the free birth chart. The current sky is calculated once, for the instant you press the button, in UTC; planet positions don’t depend on where you are now. Only the Sun, Moon and eight planets are compared, with five major aspects and a fixed maximum of 2° from exact. Houses, angles, nodes, Chiron and minor aspects are left out.
