You've calculated your chart. You have the wheel, the planets and their signs. Somewhere on the page there's an offer for a paid reading, and the obvious question is: what would paying add?
A first point to be open about: Lunara sells an automated natal reading, and this article was written with AI assistance. It isn't an independent recommendation. It tries to tell you exactly what you'd be paying for, so you can decide that it isn't for you just as easily as that it is.
Three different things
People use "birth chart reading" for at least three separate services.
1. A free calculated chart. Software works out where the Sun, Moon and planets were when you were born, and, with a reliable birth time and place, your Rising sign and houses. You get positions and a wheel. Many free tools, Lunara's included, also add short descriptions of what each placement traditionally means. So a free chart isn't always just numbers.
2. An automated written reading. This is what Lunara sells. It takes the same calculated chart and organises symbolic interpretation into chapters, with reflection questions and small practices. No astrologer writes it for you, and there's no live conversation or follow-up.
3. A human consultation. A session with a practising astrologer, who can ask you questions and respond to your answers. That's a separate kind of service. Lunara doesn't offer it, and this article doesn't compare prices for it.
If you're not sure yet which of the three you need, our guide to choosing a free natal chart interpretation starts from the question you want answered.
What paying does not add
This matters more than what it does add.
- No more accurate planets. The paid reading uses the same calculation as the free chart. Paying doesn't make the positions more precise.
- No more certainty. If your birth time is unknown, the reading can't recover it. If your Moon could be in either of two signs, paying doesn't decide which.
- No predictions. It won't tell you what to decide or what will happen.
- No diagnosis. It doesn't assess personality, mental health or physical health.
- No proof of compatibility. It's a reading of one person's chart. Lunara offers a separate two-person synastry reading, and even that doesn't prove whether a relationship will work.
What the paid reading actually contains
The clearest way to judge is to read a complete example. Lunara's sample natal reading is the full reading for a fictional birth: 1 January 1990, 12:00, London. It's built by the same report builder used after payment, not a customer's chart.
In that sample, Mars is in Sagittarius. The English copy for that placement is written in advance and inserted as is. Its opening paragraph reads:
"Mars in Sagittarius can be read as effort drawn toward big scope. You might sign up for a marathon from a standing start, propose a project that would change how the whole team works, or plan a trip that covers four countries in ten days. Ambition like this can make ordinary goals feel too small."
It goes on to name a likely friction, then ends with a reflection question and a small practice.
Here's what a paragraph like that lets you do:
- Pick one prompt. In this case, the question asks for the smallest physical action that would show a big plan has started.
- Compare it with real experience. Think of an actual plan of yours, not what the chart "should" mean.
- Keep it or reject it. If it fits, try the practice. If it doesn't, drop it. Your experience takes priority over the text.
The sample also has a Life Themes chapter that reads pairs of placements together, such as Sun with Moon and Venus with Mars.
Format: what you'd actually receive
From the sample and the report pages:
- A web page, organised into chapters such as your Big Three, the planets, aspects and Life Themes.
- A notebook section called "Make the reading your own" (see it in the sample). It asks what fits your experience, what doesn't, and one small action to try. Notes stay in your browser; they aren't sent to Lunara and disappear when the page reloads. You can download them as a text file.
- Print / Save as PDF, using your browser's print dialog. The file includes your birth details, so keep it private.
- After a purchase, the reading opens on the site, and a private link to return to it is emailed to the address used at checkout.
Price
The reading is optional and priced separately from the free chart. The price is adjusted by country, so there isn't one universal figure. It's shown on the offer button before you start checkout, and again at checkout before you pay. It's a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
Check before buying
Run through this list. If any answer is "no", wait.
- Do I understand that it's automated? No astrologer writes or reviews it, and there's no follow-up conversation.
- Have I read a complete sample? Not a teaser: the whole sample reading.
- Did I find that kind of prose useful? If the sample's questions and practices felt generic or irrelevant, yours probably will too.
- Do I understand my chart's uncertainty? If you don't know your birth time, the reading won't include a Rising sign or houses, and paying won't change that.
- Have I seen the full price? Check the amount shown before you pay.
- Do I know the format? A web page with a notebook, which you can print or save as a PDF. Not a video, a call or a printed booklet in the post.
If you're hoping to recover a lost birth time, get a prediction, settle a relationship question or learn something about your health, don't buy it. It can't do those things.
If you decide to go ahead
Start with the chart itself. If you haven't already, calculate your free birth chart, leaving the time blank if you don't know it.
The free chart is useful without buying anything. If, after reading the sample, you want the written version for your own chart, the optional personal birth chart reading is an automated reading of one person's natal chart. What's included and the price are shown before you pay.
